Men's Health Week at Erina

‘Healthy Connections’ was the theme for Men’s Health Week 2018 and Men Care Too was proud to be involved in an event at Erina on the NSW Central Coast that encouraged local men to connect with their community.

Starting off with a mini expo of local organisations such as Men of League, Prostate Cancer Foundation and Erina Men’s Shed, guests had the opportunity to collect resources and ask questions before the event got underway.

The 1st half featured a cooking presentation by Mary and Laura from ‘The Wholesome Collective’ who shared nutritional tips along with quick, easy to follow recipes that promote healthy choices when it comes to meal times. The chance to sample some of the food that had been cooked up proved popular and was enjoyed by all.

Following a half-time break, we kicked off the 2nd half of the event by welcoming Central Coast RUOK? Day Ambassador Chris Newman who then introduced 3 x Australian Heavyweight Boxing Champ Bob Mirovic and former Australian and NSW Rugby League player Don Parish. Our special guests talked about their careers, people they’d met and competed with, and shared personal stories about overcoming adversity - always with a little help or encouragement from others.

At the end of the day, before we called full time, there was one last message for our guests - to share what they had seen and heard with their mates and others who couldn’t be there.

Knowing about local services and people we can connect with can make a huge difference when times get tough as they inevitably do, knowing that you have a few mates who have your back and you can have a laugh with is one of the best healthy connections a bloke of any age can make.

Special thanks to Jodie from Wesley Sector and Support Central Coast and Sian from Central Coast Local Health District who together played a huge role in this event taking place. Thanks to Bob Mirovic, Don Parish and Chris Newman for sharing their insights and The Wholesome Collective women and volunteers who offered up some great knowledge and a delicious light lunch for our guests.

One last special mention for our photographer during the event Robert Virgona, truly appreciate your time energy to capture some great moments from the day.

Don't let the conversations and connections stop at the end of Men's Health Week, stay informed and #KnowYourManFacts all year round via the Australian Men's Health Forum website.
